Kantor for St. Paul Lutheran Church Columbus, Indiana

Qualities:

A committed Christian and preferably a member of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.
An undergraduate degree in parish music, organ, or some other related field.
Training and experience in leading a liturgical parish music program.
A relational person who will be the face of the music program to the congregation and to the community
Build relationships with congregation members
Utilize the musical abilities of congregation members
Create enthusiasm for church music within the congregation.
A desire to serve all ages and engage and instruct both young and old.
Organized with leadership skills.

Responsibilities:
Develop the church year music plan with Pastor Bauman and meet weekly with him.
Evaluate the music program and establish music goals and objectives, in collaboration with the Music Committee and Pastor Bauman.
Serve as the regular organist for the English and Spanish services.
Direct the adult choir.
Direct the Jr. Choir (elementary) and Children’s Choir (early childhood) during the Sunday School hour.
Organize a Youth Choir and/or Youth Chimes Choir, if families are interested.
Assist director of chimes choir by evaluating, examining, selecting, and ordering music.
Coordinate soloist, ensemble, and special music.
Identify the instrumental and vocal talents of congregational members (adult and youth) and utilize these individuals in the divine services.
Organizing soloists and choirs of adults and children for the Spanish service.
Organize instrumental music for festival and other services.
Plan and lead the music for the Children’s Christmas service.
Keep record of music selections, providing a list of titles and composers to Pastor Bauman of prelude, postlude, offertory, and choral selections by 8 AM Monday for the following Sunday.
Maintain the church choral library.
Teach music class in our Early Childhood Ministry (two preschool classes, one kindergarten class).
Play at least one organ recital every year for the Columbus community.
Be responsible for coordinating instrument maintenance.
Meet with the Music Committee to strengthen and further the music ministry of St. Paul.
Attend all Council meetings giving a report, and provide a written report for the Annual Meeting.
Write an article for the monthly church newsletter.
Using the music ministry to its full outreach potential employing music to bring together Anglo and Latino members, the Early Childhood Ministry, and the promotion of special services, musical events, and St. Paul concerts in our congregation and community.

Additional Information:
Compensation will be according the Indiana District Guidelines (www.in.lcms.org) for a full-time Director of Parish Music based on education and experience. The kantor and qualified dependents will receive health insurance and retirement benefits through the church’s plans.
Kantor will have teaching privileges for private lessons, if desired.
Kantor will have four weeks of vacation per year.
Kantor will be encouraged to continue further music education and professional development.

St. John Paul II Parish in Sellersburg, Indiana is accepting applications for the full-time position of Director of Liturgy and Worship for our parish community.

†St. John Paul II Parish is a recent merging of two parishes, the former St. Joseph Hill Parish and the former St. Paul Parish both in Sellersburg, IN. Sellersburg is located 9 miles north of Louisville, KY.

†Applicants must possess strong keyboard, organ and piano skills. They must also be able to utilize leadership and interpersonal skills and have a passion for Catholic worship as described in the documents of the Second Vatican Council.

†The successful candidate must be able to work collaboratively in a team model and will assume responsibility for all aspects of liturgy and liturgical music, including coordination of choirs, cantors, liturgical ministers, and liturgy committees.
